Choosing a gas braai

• Convert an existing brick braai, or fit into cabinetry: the Sizzler (3, 4, 5 or 6 burner; 575, 750, 925 or 1100 mm wide; 490 mm deep including the knobs). The opening must be the Sizzler's width plus 5 mm on each side. Line the recess with fire-retardant material and keep 50 mm clearance from a wooden or flammable surround.
• Flush in a countertop: the Hob Grill (3, 4 or 6 burner). Counter cut-outs are 725 x 430, 900 x 430 and 1500 x 430 mm. The worktop must be non-combustible, such as granite or concrete. The cabinet needs 100 cm² of ventilation per burner and a door to remove the drip tray.
• Wood, charcoal and gas in one unit: the 4 burner Hybrid drops into a 915 x 575 mm work-surface cut-out. Outdoor use only.
• A complete built-in gas braai: the Entertainer (4, 5 or 6 burner; 900, 1075 or 1250 mm wide overall). It is natural draught: the chimney is built in brick up to a ventilation cowl that is sold separately (300 x 300 mm for the 4 burner, 400 x 400 mm for the 5 and 6 burner). It needs a 220 V point for the light and rotisserie and comes with either a rotisserie or a warmer tray.
• A movable gas braai: the Sizzler Mobile (4 burner, 1417 mm wide with both side counters, 1168 mm high, 484 mm deep) comes with the rotisserie dome, motor and a stainless cabinet on castors. LPG only; hose and regulator supplied.

Rotisserie domes

Each Sizzler takes the dome with the same burner count. The 3 and 4 burner Hob Grills use the 3 and 4 burner Sizzler domes; the 6 burner Hob Grill uses a 3 burner dome over half of the grill. The Hybrid has its own 4 burner dome. A dome does not suit a Sizzler fitted inside a built-in wood braai, because there is no room for the hood to open. The motor carries up to 7.5 kg.

Installation and safety

• A registered gas installer must install the unit. The guarantee is void otherwise.
• A shut-off valve and a regulator to SANS 1237 are required. Gas supply, cylinder and regulator are not included, except with the Sizzler Mobile.
• Gas braais are for outdoor use. The Entertainer may also go on a patio with at least one open side. A Hob Grill installed indoors needs an extractor hood.
• The Sizzler, Hob Grill and Hybrid do not use a metal flue or a turbo cowl.

304 or 316 stainless steel

• Inland (for example Johannesburg, Pretoria and Bloemfontein): 304 is normally sufficient, outdoors or under a roof. 316 is an optional premium upgrade.
• Coastal towns (for example Cape Town and Durban), outdoor or under a roof: 316 is the primary choice; 304 is the lower-cost alternative. On a fully enclosed coastal patio, 304 is suitable.
