Gas Fireplaces

How flueless gas fireplaces work

A flueless (vent-free) gas fireplace burns cleanly enough to release its heat straight into the room, so there is no chimney and almost all the heat stays indoors. These fireplaces are for indoor use only. Gas supply, bottles and regulators are not included.

Safety, installation and ventilation

• Installation must be done by a registered gas installer. Gas fireplace installation is not a DIY job.
• Each model lists a minimum room volume. A room smaller than that needs suitable permanent ventilation.
• The Classic, Contemporary, Double Sided, Hanging and Picture models include an ODS (oxygen depletion sensor) safety system, which shuts the gas off if oxygen in the room drops too low.
• Do not fit a flue or cowl to these units.

Choosing a model

• Small rooms and apartments: the Hanging Fireplace mounts on the wall with no building work and heats up to about 44 m² (3.5 kW).
• Medium rooms: the Picture Fireplace (5.7 kW, up to about 72 m²) can hang on the wall or be recessed into a 160 to 200 mm deep aperture.
• Large rooms, recessed into a wall: the Classic (8.7 kW, up to about 108 m², 250 to 300 mm aperture with a lintel) or the Contemporary (11.4 kW, up to about 144 m²).
• Open-plan spaces or a dividing wall: the Double Sided Gas Fireplace heats two areas through one see-through unit: the 800 (8.7 kW, up to about 108 m²) or the 1000 (10.2 kW, up to about 131 m²).
• Drop-in installation: the Drop In (800, 1000 and 1200) and the Flameline (800, 1200 and 1600) set into a recess or a built surround. The largest Flameline heats up to about 181 m².
• Converting an existing wood fireplace: Universal Gas Grates (600, 700, 800 and 1000, 8 to 12 kW) fit an existing opening. Double Sided Gas Grates (700 and 800, 11 kW) convert a double-sided wood fireplace. Check the minimum opening size on the product page first.

Room sizes are the manufacturer's recommended maximums and vary with insulation, ceiling height and climate. All models carry a 2-year guarantee. See the gas fireplace guide for full specifications and installation notes.
