Table Top Insert Braais

What is included

Each unit comes with an ember maker, a grid, an ash tray and a cutout plate. Mild steel units have a 2.5 mm body sprayed black and a zinc-plated grid. The 430 and 304 stainless steel units have a 2 mm body; the 304 units have a stainless steel grid. The standard sizes are supplied as is and cannot be altered. For an opening that does not suit a standard size, use the custom size table top insert braai.

Measuring and installation

• Size labels such as 900 or 1200 are nominal, not exact outer widths. Check the dimensions on the product page before you order.
• Measure the brick opening in several places and use the smallest reading.
• No metal flue or cowl is needed or supplied. Indoors, a table top insert may only go into an existing brick braai with a working chimney.
• Outdoors, it must stand on a non-combustible surface such as concrete, brick or stone, never on wood decking.

Table top insert or insert braai stand?

These are two different products, and you choose one or the other. A table top insert braai is made to go into an existing brick braai or onto a heat-resistant surface. The Insert Braai Stand is a braai in its own right: a frame with its own ember maker and grid. It comes in 750, 1000 and 1200 mm, in mild steel, 430 and 304 stainless steel.

Choosing the material

• Mild steel (black): the budget option for indoor use and sheltered inland installations.
• 430 stainless steel: the value stainless option for inland areas such as Johannesburg, Pretoria and Bloemfontein, outdoors or under cover.
• 304 stainless steel: the premium grade in this range. Choose it for outdoor use in towns that are inland but in a coastal province (for example George or Stellenbosch), for enclosed patios at the coast, or wherever you want extra corrosion resistance inland.
• Coastal outdoor braais: table top inserts are not made in 316 stainless steel. For an outdoor or covered braai in a coastal town such as Cape Town or Durban, 316 is the recommended grade, so choose a 316 stainless steel insert braai from the Standard insert range instead. 304 is the lower-cost alternative.
